Another Thor flaw fixed

So tell me... have you ever seen "butyl putty" tape use to seal sewer pipes on RV??

Window = Yes, Roof vents = Yes.... Now 3 inch black tank drain lines??

Well guess what after 2 years I had a small drip where the pipes conect to the back tank.

So they put the two joints together with butyl tape then covered the seam with a hose clamp... and thats it. For real. I took one picture (kinda blurrie - sorry) after I removed the clamp and cleaned it up some.

I used some pipe tape (rubber stretch tape) to seal then connected the the two pipes with a rubber hose and two hose clamps.

Should be good to go for 7 + years (I hope) and its easliy removable for future repairs to drain line or the black tank removal, or to replace the slide valve for the black tank dump.

Oh, before you ask.... I zip tied up the tank sensor + heading pad wires you see in the picture. They were zip tied to this pipe to hide this wonder Thor Factory install.

If found a classified Thor Factory tape:
"Hey buddy... I ran out of rubber hoses and the correct pvc male/female joints to this Axis black tank".... "What should I do"?

"Da... I dont know, Im installing skylights and AC's today and I have some of the gummy stuff... do you think that will work"?

So more of "whatever it takes to get it out the door and down the road", eh...

At least you didn't have to take it to the "dealer" and have them keep your coach for six months....

Yeah, exactly. I was thinking to myself .... this might end up being a smelly job (Even after I flushed the black tank) but I rather spend one or two hours doing it myself than wasting my time and waiting 2 - 4 weeks to find out they didnt fix it to begin with or it leaks again next season.

Sorry, can't blame Thor for this one: that's how they come from the tank manufacturer.
The MDPE tanks (Medium Density Polyethylene Resin) have a 3" adapter that is connected to the tank just as you described, with butyl tape and a hose clamp. The adapter is need to make the connection to standard 3" pipe and gate valves.

I just received a tank I ordered yesterday and that's how they come.

There you go.... Another find idea. I bet 1 out of 5 or 10 will leak in the first 2 years. And 5 out of 10 in 5 years.

At least they could have used something like RTV silcone gasket maker. Once the putty move it opens up a gap then it wont take long before a leak starts. Were something like RTV is flexable and will last for years and its removable for future repairs or replacment of components down the road.

I would use something else If I was you and perhaps wrap connection with that pipe tape for leaks just in case.
