Entry door extension popping

I have a 2022 Thor Aria 3901 with the Challenger brand entry door. This style of door has been used for many years by many RV manuf. The problem is that allowing the door to open fully beyond 90 degrees allows the extension arm in the middle of the door to make a loud popping noise. According to dealers and Thor there is no remedy. Has anyone attempted to install a gas strut externally to control the opening of the door?? If so, how did you place the attachment brackets on the door to deal with radius of the curves??

Thanks for any suggestions.

On most Class A doors there IS a gas strut at the bottom of the door to hold it open at 90 degrees.

Thanks for the reply. The door style is such that a gas strut can be placed at the bottom of the door it would interfere with access. I am looking for the info regarding an external top of the door mount with the radius style door.

Thanks for the picture, however the screen door attaches to the entry door all the way to the bottom edge. The picture shows that screen door is raised with a sweep attached to clear the attached gas strut.

I cannot show you a picture, but my Thor Palazzo has the strut on top of the door outside. I think they changed to inside in 2015 or 2016, because I do not see one on a 2015 on RV Traider. The strut is mounted on the right side just above the door on the rig. The mounting is just above where the straight top of the door ends. The other strut mount is on the door just at where the other straight part stops. Strut part we switched to is weaker. My wife could not open or close the door with the OEM. She is not in good health or strong
Found a partial picture. You will have to blow this up, but it shows one end of the strut and how it is mounted. I am picking the RV up later today and will post a better picture.

I am sorry I could not get to my RV. I forgot about my wife's doctors appointments, and yesterday one more with Dish network install. I will post in a couple of hours.

Just got back. My strut is 20 inch at 10lbs and I think the OEM was 20lbs. My wife still has a hard time with the 10lb strut. A good gust of wind will close the door with the 10lb strut. Do use Dicor or ProFlex to seal the plates and fastener holes. Do not use RTV Silicone.

Atwood makes a kit to fix this issue. But, it doesn't last.

Look at this thread and see if it's any help.

Door Fix

Thanks for the info. I have discovered that using a old shock absorber bushing cut with a slit in it to slide over the metal arm to act as cushion works perfectly to control the opening as well as prevent the over extension. It has stopped the popping noise.
