Road Noise

We took our first trip and was surprised at the level of road noise (primarily wind). Is this normal? We have a Thor Siesta 24SD

Do you have any spots that are allowing the wind (and other stuff!); to pass on through the coach?

Search the forum for Tom of info on the topic.

Has the noise gotten worse since your test drive?

Yes this is typical to get wind noise thru the driver and passenger side windows, Seems to get worse with crosswinds.

Think of the RV as basically just a big box. Sounds get bounds and reflected around inside it: making them appear worse...
It's probably normal.

I usually drive a KR as the daily driver which is very quiet

Tuscany has no engine noise but you certainly can hear wind and it is worse in a 30 mph + cross wind

Had a lot of wind noise in our Gremini, most from the entry house door. Had that door doubled sealed which cut the noise level by half or more.

The following story goes against all which is holy
But
Between flagstaff and williams, I-40 is the most amazing bit of highway repair, maybe in the history of the world. So smooth, so well done, so quiet.

My 24.1, on this good road, has the exactly same decibel reading(per my phone app) as my King Ranch 1/2 ton.
Very quiet.
Of course a bad road means rattles and rocks thrown up into the wood floor of the RV, so sound is relative to road for us.

And
Sound insulation is very easy to add.
A DIY, or just about any stereo/tint shop can do it for you.

(I have THREE HUNDRED POUNDS of insualtion, closed cell foam, 1" thick kiln cloth, and everything in between, ready to install. The project has moved from critical to meh, because our coach is pretty quiet.)

I am unsure of what people are using as a base regarding noise of rv vs ?
Is the noise real, or is it uninformed expectation?

Run a decibel meter to decide the noise difference between rv and what you think is acceptable.

Sensitive to Rattles and Road Noise

I am the worst for rattles, noises,

1_ buy furniture pads, put around door and screen, this will stop the door and screen from rattling.
2. Lower table, put a towel under table top
3. Put towel on Stove burner, under glass
4. On TV stand, put furniture pads between TV and mounting rails

AND ALWAYS RUN WITH RADIO VOL UP>>>>>

Now the THOR goes down the road without a rattle, noise, loose panel.

My Omni is exceptionally quiet. I take my hearing aids out. Easy solution.

But apparently the table squeaks so we are going to try some lube on the hinge points.

My solution is better but she can't take her ears out.

Had a past Winnebago Vista and the slide on the driver's side sounded like 5 pounds of popcorn in a microwave. During the test drive for the Omni, I made sure there was no popcorn in it.

One issue is the slide partition on most RV separating the main area from sleeping area. The THOR products had a door that folds against the wall, the slide doors in tracks are difficult to calm down on bumpy roads. I passed on that model. The Freedom Traveler line and most THOR products have a very stable quiet ride. It seems at 55 MPH at 1500 RPM. this could cruse forever......

We bought a 2017 Siesta 24 SS last year. We discovered several source of noise. The bottom of the screen door had a loose plate. I used silicone to seal it. I checked every cabinet panel and secured them with small wood screws. Also the manufacturer uses cheap rubber windows seals. It could be the source of the wind you heard. We installed "darkening" curtains behind the driver and passenger seats. It totally eliminated the noise from the "house". It also helps the MH AC during hot days by separating the vehicle cabin (a source of heat) from the rest of the MH. And while driving on a cold/hot day, the vehicle AC/heater only cool/heats the front cabin. Amazon sells ceiling curtain tracks.

I have Leisure Travel Van unity on Mercedes sprinter and yes wind noise unavoidable, some roads are bad get used to it, and my motor home very well made and insulated.

I agree Bob : Music is my way to forget noises from the square body of my motorhome makes while travelling. Someone on this Forum once told me : "remember most class C rigs are as aerodynamic as a barn door" you could make the best of it by just ignoring most of thsoe noises !

What Thor model do you have? My Freedom Traveller A27 was so noisy we had to yell at each other when going down the road. Bob, turning the radio up made it worse. I installed Dynamat in the doghouse cover. Put heavy outdoor floor mats on the floor. That helped. I’m going to stick more Dynamat in the fenderwells next.

we have the 2021 THOR ACE 30.4. There is a little crosswind noise coming from somewhere near the windshield. Otherwise it is a very quiet ride, no vibration from inside the RV. You have to make sure your blinds are up... table down. I think THOR did a pretty good job sealing this one up..

I turn my hearing aids down a few clicks and turn up Spotify which bluetooth connects to the hearing aids. Works very well and doesn't add to the noise for others.
