Atwood Water heater #GC6AA-10E

Own a 2017 Thor ACE. Original Atwood water heater model GC6AA-10E required replacement. Dometic bought Atwood; Dometic recommended their model WH-6GEA. It's not an "exact" fit requiring flanges and replumbing. The water heater cover that came with their recommended replacement does not fit in the recessed opening - its too wide and too long. Contact with vendor has not helped. Anyone know of a water heater panel that will fit the opening as the old Atwood panel?

Can you use the old cover?

No. The Dometic exterior panel replacement venting and tabs to secure exterior panel are of a different configuration - the original Atwood exterior panel does not match the Dometic venting nor tab placement.

We just replaced an atwood 6gal water heater in a friends 2016 challenger because of pinhole leak, to thin to weld. We used the suburban advantage saw6d 5320a it fit great We reused the trim plate and the door, coach is full body paint so he was very happy. It was a few simply wire connections and gas connection. There is a good video on YouTube REPLACING AN ALUMINUM TANKRV WATER HEATER by Airxcel Inc.

We were on the road - once we hooked up and turned on water the water heater began leaking. we called a recommended mobile rv repairman. he did all the research/ordering. so the heater is installed but the exterior panel does not fit...
