Interesting mod I didnt do that but what I did was turn the bed SO the head/foot is now the sides of the bed. Im 6'4" so that makes its a little tight but its still fine for me to sleep. Doing this helps from getting scratched up by the wood and gives us a few extra inches to walk in front of the cabinets.
