Hot water heater issues

My wife and I own a 2018 Thor Vegas 25.2 and I am having a problem with the Gerard GSWH-2 hot water heater. When I start it up it starts to heat the water then I get an E5 error code which tells me the blower isn't working. Does any one have an easy fix for this.

Thanks,
Richard W.

Hot water heater issues

I had this problem back in March after I got my rig back from the dealer after warranty repairs!

The code does mean the blower is not spinning up. The reason could be the following:

1. The main board is not sending voltage to the blower motor. I can send you a procedure to check the voltage on the main board but make sure the fuse is ok next to the switch inside the unit. If the main board is not delivering the voltage, it would need to be replaced.

2. The blower motor is being blocked by debris or it is bad. You should be able to barely get your fingers in their to spin the fan. It should spin very freely and make several rotations.

My blower motor was bad. I could spin it by hand but it did not move as freely as it should..... I could tell more easily be comparing it to the replacement blower.

I was lucky and was still under warranty. I called both Thor and Girard and both were willing to send me a new blower since I did not want to drive 6 hours back to the dealer.

It is almost impossible to replace the assembly with the unit in the rig. They send you not only the motor but the mounting housing and fan as a completely assembly. The problem is removing the screws for the mount in the back of the unit. You can get anything in there to remove them.

The blower motor and fan can be removed from the mount with some patience and manual dexterity so you don’t have to pull the entire unit out of the rig. That’s what I opted to do and it has been working fine since.

I have a 2018 Thor Outlaw 29H so maybe Girard had a bad bunch of blower motors around that time.
