Electrical anomaly - repair or not?
OK, so I spent the holidays up north, I live in So Cal, when I hooked up to the electrical in the park I was staying, everything checked out correct, (using 50a). It was late in the day so it was getting dark. My wife pointed out that the porch light was on. That was odd to me as I hadn't turned it on. I went to turn it off and it was in the off position already, it is now staying on, in either position. I shut the power off from the pedestal, and the porch light works as it should, turn power back on same thing, it stays on. This is the only device that this is happening too. So to further explore the anomaly, I un-plugged the power cable and started the generator, yep, works just fine. Plug power back into the pedestal and the same occurrence, light on all the time. It didn't really bother me as nothing else was effected by it. But I would sure like to know WHY? Now I've been around electric all my life, and this is a first. I have a Progressive Surge Protector, and it had all correct numbers showing.
Any thoughts?

That is a mystery... trying to think what could cause that.
The porch light is 12v... and you said the switch is off - so something would need to be backfeeding 12v somehow when plugged into pedestal only??
Nothing coming to mind - but be curious to see what it turns out to be.

If it is effecting one 12v item, you would think it would effect all 12v items, but not, only the porch light, so far. I have a feeling that it is going to manifest itself into something much bigger coming down the line. So, I'm going to start a process of finding this issue. Grounds are naturally the first suspect, so I'll start there.

Do you have a polarity sensor in the system? I'm wondering if the polarity is reversed. I'm just grabbing at straws.

Yes I do, it's part of the Progressive Surge Protector, good thought though

I would say that's weird, but you already know that! Since 12v and 120v systems are separate the only thing would be the converter. Light must somehow be wired directly in to the converter which is why it comes on when plugged in to shore power.

Do you have Rapid Camp? Rapid Camp and wall switch wired like two way. Turn on at wall must turn off at wall. Turn on with Rapid Camp wall switch will not turn it off.

Thank you Chuck, I will be checking that in the next week or so. I'm in no hurry, next time out is not until next month, and heck, that won't stop me either

Ctpres, thanks for sharing that info! We have Rapid Camp on our coach but have never used it. Nice to know about the light!

As a matter of fact, I do, but also have never used it. Perhaps, I'll check it out when I'm hooked up again. Darn, I had to go run my extension, both, you got my curiosity up. And, that is what it was. I must have hit light button while I was moving my slide out, as that is all I really use it for. That was a good call ctpres. Thank you very much, you just solved my mystery.
Happy New Year.

The Rapid Camp and wall switch would be working like a 3-way switch.
