Campground near Elkhart IN

On our way back home this year we want to visit Elkhart IN and take the Thor plant 750 tour where our coach was built. We will be there on March 27-28 but it seems all area campgrounds don't open until April 1. Does anyone know of an alternative place we could stay in that area?

About 25 miles away but I believe the Angola KOA opens on 3/16.

We have found that many municipal/state sites say they're closed because they've turned the water off for the winter.
We've stayed at a dozen+ closed parks by putting our money in their collection box and not needing water.

Granger, IN KOA now seems to be affiliated with RJourney. In either case, nice place and only 5-10 miles from Elkhart.
I can't tell from their site if they're open, but it appears so.

Thanks for the suggestion, I think we will stay at that KOA.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to spend one minute touring anything concerning a Thor factory. It is not what you think I assure you. Save your time and enjoy a fine meal someplace.

Well, aren't you a joyful encouraging contributor!
Why not take your hatred elsewhere?

Always always go to the factory shop on ward st. See Terry or Steve. They will always help you with repairs and save you thousands of dollars

I been oi the Thor Airstream factory 4 times once for myself, once with the Ultravan group, once to show my grandson a great American factory and once because we were at a Corvair convention in Columbus and I wonted to see if anything had changed in Jackson Center in the 33 years. I have owned RVs. I toured Thor MC factories 750, 250 and 850, Entegra, Jayco, Newmar and Forest River coach plants.

I know I am not average, but I prefer a factory tour to a trip to Slab City, CA.

One of the things I miss about my job in the construction industry was working in the different plants and seeing how they produce stuff.
I've seen them build Ford cars, bake Butternut bread, generate electricity, manufacture steel, refine oil, make Tootsie Rolls, etc. etc. etc.
I would love to see how they build an RV and after the tour we'd go out for a nice meal...

We just set up camp in the Angola KOA suggested by EA37TS, it is a nice park and I am still looking forward to visiting Thor plant 750 tomorrow.

25° here at the park this morning, it’s 2° warmer than that at our home in Michigan! 🥶

We visited the Thor plant yesterday, I thought it was interesting, DW was a little bored. We were the only ones on the tour so we got plenty of attention from our excellent tour guide Jake. We saw several coaches in various stages of assembly and Jake explained some of their equipment and processes. Like how they use a horizontal jig, ratchet straps and vacuum for 8 hours or more to hold that huge windshield in place in the front cap while the adhesive cures. Made me wonder how installers would replace a windshield in a fully assembled coach.
We drove through Shipshewana, a large Amish community, on our way to the plant and saw, and drove alongside, a lot of horses and buggies. Also some plowing now in progress with real “horsepower”. I am a former farmer but only used steel horses. Three horses, a one bottom plow, and one man make a 40 acre field look HUGE! It was a lesson in what real work is.

We were back there 3-7 April for a little work on our ACE, and stayed right there at the parking place on Ward Street in Wakarusa, by the repair shop. Water and electric hook ups, and lots of room. We also toured plant 750, and were the only ones. We really enjoyed the tour and appreciated their time. Went to the RV museum in Elkhart too.

Glad you had a nice stop too!
