New to the Forum/2014 Chateau
Hello to everyone!! First time posting and newbie in the Thor World. My wife and I recently got a 2014 Chateau 31l and we are excited to take her on our maiden voyage to the Keys in a couple of weeks. I've read through several of the threads and can't seem to locate some answers. So forgive me if this has been discussed and resolved, but any help would be appreciated.
1. Electric hot water switch/control- Works fine on the gas side, nothing on the electric side. Pulled the panel and everything looks to be connected. Inside the hot water side compartment, everything looks ok too. Was thinking a new element??
2. Inverter- So the switch isn't labeled, but when it is flipped, I hear a click from the master bedroom under the bed pedestal. One weird thing that always happens is the radio/navigation in the driver area is somehow connected to this switch. One direction and the radio doesn't work, switched the other direction, it comes on. This is the same with the truck running or not. So, I'm lost as to the function of the inverter, and when should it be utilized. Perhaps this would be affecting the electric hot water switch??
Looking forward to many years of travel with our Thor Chateau! We can't wait to get her in the wind.
Greg

I don't have your unit but I will try to help.
1. There should be a separate switch in the water heater compartment for the electric side.
2. Are you sure this is the inverter switch? Sounds like the salesman switch. Is it by the door? If so, most likely it is the coach shut off switch for all the 12v. I am guessing you may not have an inverter.
I hope you enjoy your unit and the lifestyle!

Welcome to the forum!
Your water heater on "Electric" will only work when you are plugged into shore power or have the generator running.
And like was said, the switch with the click is the Store/Use switch. With it off, your coach battery won't charge. If you store your coach with it on, there is more drain on the battery and it will soon be dead. Those deep cycle batteries aren't supposed to be drained completely.
I check my coach every couple weeks when it's in storage, and I run the generator for 15-20 minutes. Then, back to store. I don't have an aftermarket disconnect device. Still running the original Harris batteries after 4 years.

Element on the HWH may be burned out. Doesn't take but once maybe twice turning on the HWH dry to burn up an element. If you have a multimeter ( a must for all rv'rs) check for voltage across the element's electrodes. When I was working and we set up portable decontamination showers inevitably one of the guys would plug in the heater dry and burn up the heat element.
As Mr sunshine said that switch you hear with the distinctive "click" is the battery store/use switch. The cab radio is tied into the house batteries not the truck batteries. This feature allows you to play the radio while camping without running down the truck batteries. That is a nice feature as our old unit required the truck ignition on accessory to play the radio.
Welcome and happy travels!
Mark
