Spend big money on an rv and I'm not allowed to use the toilet properly?

Define "properly"...
If it's getting rid of the reason that you just sat down on it::

Well I've been RVing since the mid-60s with in parent's 19' Shasta; and 5 RVs of my own over the years and we always put TP where it belongs - in the toilet - and I have never experienced any poo clog.

Also, our black tank is never the limiting factor when boondocking. It's usually the grey tank, followed by the FW tank.

It depends on what you mean by “properly”. An RV is not your house - for most people anyway.

My wife likes to use a lot of toilet paper and she puts it down the toilet. Over the years I have learned that life is more pleasant if I do not criticize my wife so I deal with it. Just call me "poop man Bob" Logic tells you that you fill the black tank with water until you can see it below the toilet. That helps prevent the build up of toilet paper and excrement below the toilet. Unfortunately the black tank in our new coach is only about 4 inches deep on the passenger side where the toilet is. The tank needs to be nearly full to have liquid below the toilet. We did not even get home from picking the coach up in Florida before the toilet was spitting back at us when we flushed it.

For years I have carried two trusty tools for dealing with problems like this. One is what I call a magic wand and is an adjustable power washer that is attached to a garden hose. It can be inserted down the toilet to wash solids towards the discharge end of the tank. The so called black tank flush systems are a joke and merely give your black tank a gentile shower. Their best use is to put water in the tank without the need for pouring it down the toilet. The second and most important tool is an old fashion awning pull-rod. This tool is ideal for inserting down the toilet and breaking up that "poop pile". We did not take these "sanitation engineer tools" with us but as soon as we got home they found their way to the new coach.

One of the first modifications on my list was to install a diverter valve behind the toilet with a garden hose fitting. That allows me to use the magic wand without pulling a hose thru one of the windows. Another nice feature is it turns off the water to the toilet at the same time so when you have the wand down the "throat of the porcelain king" you can clearly see what is gong on at the bottom. Plus all the water pressure is reserved for the nozzle of the wand.

While we are on the subject let us all make like horse poop and hit the trial!

This is just a really crappy topic but I still don't get it.......

Me and the DW use our toity pretty much the same as we do at home and have never had an issue withour coaches.

When I say we use the toity like home..... I also mean the bowl is filled with water when going and wiping just like home. We flll the bowl.... go.... flush..... wipe..... fill the bowl.... flush.

Never any clogs.... never any backups...... it works as a toilet and septic system should.

If you boondock, this isn't a water conservation approach.... but otherwise we have never had an issue.

I fill the black tank with water once after the initial dump and drain again. Then we treat the black tank with Calgon Water Softener, Dawn and a septic tablet after dumping.

As I see: there's a delicate balance between using enough water to keep things moving along... and using the least amount of water possible: to preserve space in the tank...
Keeping things extra slippery with Calgon; may just allow for less water usage...

3 different rigs in the last 15 years alone and never had an issue with toilet paper clogs.

Sorry, but I wouldn’t dream of carrying crap filled toilet paper through the kitchen for disposal even if it was in a trash bag.

Then I guess it's a good thing that you never had to...
We haven't had problems either; but it seems (to us) to be another way to avoid the problem.

I'm still with Dave......

You use it properly and more like a home toity, you should not have any issues. And my current coach has the toilet on the passenger side and the black tank is on the driver side and haven't had an issue in almost two years now.

But people having a crappy dog butt over every inch in the living quarters is fine? Laying on the beds, sitting on their laps, licking their faces (or is it now feces), picking up/holding/carrying the mutt everywhere, usually holding the back end.... never mind picking up dog poo with 'same' plastic bag... kids walking/laying on grass that every dog has peed on... dog pee on every vertical surface a foot off the ground.

No, I will carry said bag thru the MH, knowing where it has been than not knowing when the last time a mutt placed its butt on the pillow.

I have had RV's since the early 60's and several with two bathrooms. The only issue ever has been the macerator toilet due to people not operating it properly in they don't hold the button and fill it properly first

Never an issue with all the various others I have owned and the associated black tanks.

I have always added some water and my preferred treatment of choice prior to any use. I never empty it unless it is 1/2 full or more unless it is going to be stored for a time.

Always flush a bit to clean the bottom of the tank and the hose prior to storing after each dump. I had had many rigs with the black tank flush which is only used for long term storage.

Water and common sense usually works unless their is a significant design issue.

Our pets are cleaner than many people so never really give that a thought except to enjoy them.
