THOR #5822
Winegard Trav'ler Signal Loss

Our Dish TV system started malfunctioning about six weeks ago. It has worked flawlessly since we bought the Thor Tuscany in March 2016. Now it will only drive one of two Wally receivers. The Wally in the bedroom works fine. The Wally in the living room only receives a few channels in a sporadic fashion.

I've used the diagnostic tools in the LR Wally to try and determine the cause of the malfunction. The verdict is that there is a signal loss to the Wally that is preventing normal operation.

We have a Rayzar over-the-air HD antenna that allows us to watch local channels through that Wally. Some satellite channels can be watched intermittently (USA, CNN and a few others) but most are nonfunctional.

I have included some photos of the Dish on top of the motorhome. The cables all look OK to me. There are no loose fittings or damaged cables that I can see. I am unable to get up on the roof myself due to some physical limitations (broken left arm) and a ladder that is too short.

I had a mobile mechanic take a look at the cables a few days ago. He could not find any issues. It was the end of the day and we were moving to Tampa the next day so he couldn't spend any time troubleshooting other than switching the coax cables on terminals B and C to find out if that affected anything (it did not seem tomake any difference).

Since arriving in Tampa I have been unable to find someone to work on the system. Some mobile mechanics have said they did not own diagnostic tools to troubleshoot the system.

So, I am hoping that someone has experienced this problem (one of two Wally receivers stopped working) and can offer me some advice on how to resolve it. Please let me know if you had a tech fix it and how you managed to find a person with the right skills.

Thank you ...

Problem resolved!

I did find a mobile mechanic to install the new coax cable bundle that I had purchased from Winegard (at their recommendation). After switching the cables, we ran the Wally diagnostic routines to verify signal strength, and then both TVs started working fine!

If you are in the Tampa area, and you need help on RV or motorhome repairs, I recommend calling Zach Wiles, from Elite Mobile RV Service in Clearwater, FL at 727-238-0990.(or email him at EliteMobileRVServiceLLC@Gmail.com).
