'18 Windsport 29M: Tall bed, short wife

Okay, the bed pedestal is tall and now has a tall mattress on it. Wife said to figure it out and fix it so she can more easily get into and out of bed.

Anyone figure out a decent solution that's worked for them? Have plenty of ideas of my own (there's the OHB ladder, for example), but need one that passes her standards.

Getting a taller wife would be too expensive...

Search for "Jerry's Hurricane mods" on this site. He built a set of steps for his petite wife, Myra.

I don't remeber Jerry's "steps" but I would probably build a movable platform to step up on next to the bed.

Yeah, with over 5000 posts, many of them social, Jerry's thread is, shall I say, "difficult" to utilize. It just kept on growing and growing over the years.

The idea posted is great except for one thing - that's my side of the bed. After close to 5 decades, don't know if we want to swap sides of the bed. She might just send me to the OHB anyway....

I might see if I can figure out something that folds up against the base when not needed. Have to think about that....

I have the same problem on my 2018 ACE 30.3 My wife also had problems reaching the Hanging rod in the wardrobe. While I could have lowered the rod, I chose to build moveable platforms about 7" high that fills the space next to her side of the bed and in front of her side of the wardrobe. The first photo below is the platform I put in front of the wardrobe the second is the one along the right side of the bed.

When I installed the 50/50 split fully adjustable Queen bed in our DP.., had the same issue with how high the bed sat.. Wife is 4'6"..

So built a 2 step wooden platform that would fit between the bed and wall on each side. then carpeted it.
{hint},
Grab a tape measure and measure from the floor to her bottom, then subtract that measurement from the height of the bed, then add 2 or 3 inches.... that will give you the height the platform needs to be..

We purchased two storage ottomans on Amazon. One is about 10" tall and the other is about 20" tall. At bedtime, we arrange them as steps. At other times they work great as footrests for the front seats when watching TV.

Folding single step from Harbor Freight...

Or swap it for a Palazzo, ours has a nice step on the wife's side of the bed that goes over the engine and up to the closet, so her side is more like knee level instead of hip level.

Bought a folding step from Walmart. She said it works fine. She can also use it for the upper cabinets.

Yeah, a Palazzo... The taller wife would cost less.

You're not thinking that through.

The taller they are the harder it is to keep them happy? Who made up that rule?

I've learned that height, hers or mine, is irrelevant in keeping her happy (except when she wants something from the top shelf). Have no idea what is relevant....

Forget size: just imagine the cost to replace any wife.

Ya. Just don't tell them not to worry. That you cannot afford to get divorced!

Agreed... with your last statement.

We had that problem in a boat. By the time we upgraded the mattress, it became difficult to climb in and out quietly, even for me.

We bought a small plastic step with a top lid that opens. Great place to keep personal items, moves easily for cleaning and provides the extra step to climb into bed.
