Regular Gas availability at Truck Gas Pumps

Do those Truck Gas Pumps at those big gas stations (Loves, etc) also have Regular Gas (not Diesel)? I have never tried to go to those lanes.

Driving a 33 ft Class A, with a towed car on a dolly can be challenging sometime at the regular gas pumps.

Do you have the Pilot/Flying J App on your Smartphone?
They can point you toward what you need.

The only place that has "RV fuel Lanes" with Gas, is "Flying J" BUT not all Flying J has them, I went on line to get a list of them. And I wish we could use truck lanes, but no gas at them. BTW, when we look up other gas stations they my say RV friendly, but it is for diesel, not gas. I look at google maps and zoom in to see if I can fit in and get out safe.

Thanks Bob. I didn't even know Pilot/Flying J have their own ap. That will be very helpful. I have been to some very tight turns lately at some gas stations when I filled up.

No. The truck lanes generally have diesel and DEF only.

That’s the way I did it with our 37 foot gasser before we bought the Accolade.

I have been to some Pilots that are a no go for larger gas RVs. I tried finding the ones with RV pumps and then hoped those pumps would work.

I will also say that fuel fill on the rear of the Challenger sucks and had to be the idea of a brain dead idiot.

We just got back from a 3 week drive from NJ to NM. We have a diesel and always prefer Flying J RV pumps because you avoid the truck traffic and can get in and out pretty quickly. Also plenty of room if towing.

I am a big fan of the RV Trip Wizard which shows every gas station on the route that you are planning. We were able to find only Flying J for the entire trip and every station had the RV lanes.

Only downside I am now seeing is that at $3+ for diesel the $100 limit on the pump comes up pretty fast. So you either have to walk into the store and pre-pay or use another card if needed.

Yeah... That $100 limit needs to be raised.
Probably doubled...

100.00 limit on what card? Never had that issue with the PFJ Good Sam card. I did have mine setup for auto pay from checking a number of years ago.

The $100 limit is usually set by the gas station and not the credit card company.

I have stopped at some places and the pump shuts off at $100 and then I have to start over. The the next gas station I can pump $150 on the same card.

Now sometimes when it shuts off at $100 and I have to restart, I will get a text from my credit card company asking if I am trying to make a purchase again for gas to protect against fraud. I jsut reply with a "Y" and pump away.

I agree. Our Miramar is on the rear too. It's supposed to be a sales point because you can fill from either side... Ha.

I have found when filling at a station with dive in pumps, if they are double stack, I can pull in so my rear is lined up with the outside pump. When done I can then pull away without too much problem. I try to go to the set of pumps farthest to the right so I can fuel without worry about someone pulling in beside me... Always worried about tail swing taking out someone.

It just seems like a needless complexity.
I know that the stations set that arbitrary limit...

I agree.... in this day and age it is ridiculous.

I think some have set this limit to limit themselves from the amount of potential fraud from stolen credit cards.

Bob, that limit is established by the credit card companies. The station can ignore it but then they stand the risk in a fraudulent sale. The card is preauthorized for the 100 and then Charged the actual amount once the sale is complete. If the the card provider stands behind the preauthorized amount. If the retailer ignores it, they are at risk for the entire sale.

My experience has me agree that it is the card company and not the station. My Amex was the worst for this with a 50.00 limit. That was the first card to go when we started slimming down.

My credit union has a max purchase limit on our debit cards of 500 per day. We have to call them in advance of a big ticket purchase

Debit cards are a different animal altogether..... but their are Bank Credit Cards who will restrict usage based on their policies as well as an individial's credit ratings and income levels provided for the account.

I have pulled up to pumps that have a sign saying $100 limit. I have also had my card stop at $100 at one station then the next station I could pump more than $100 with the same card.

It could also be possible that credit card networks like Visa, AMEX, etc. restrict max purchases for a particular station because of a history of issues

They blamed the individual stations...

I have called card companies and had them remove their imposed restrictions. They will tell you the restrictions are in place to prevent fraud.

Chase is notorious for declining purchases because we are using a card 500 miles from home.

Barclays had a merchant call to verify my identity one time. Instead they got me on the phone with an immediate card cancellation order. Cut the card in 2 while they were on the phone.

One issue we have is our cards carry a zero balance unless we are traveling. That might contribute to the problem.

I have had gas and diesel rigs. I use Flying J credit card and rarely have used anything but Flying J. No limit on fuel fill and price per gallon discounted 6 od 8 cents.
