Road Heat

I have a 2015 ACE that gets so hot it cooks anything on the floor... I talked to an owner of a 2017 ACE that says their floor doesn't get hot. Was there a change in construction or a spray that was put on the new ones?
Any help would be appreciated Thanks, Mike

There is a plastic, fabric seal that separate the engine compartment from the coach floor. It forces most of the air from the radiator down under the coach. I would guess yours has separated or become torn allowing air from the radiator into the dog house area. Many of us have increased the thin doghouse insulation, but primarily for noise and not heat control. My floor does get warn 105 F degrees on a hot day (95 F ambient) on a long drive but the cats love to sprawl on it.

Hot !!!

Mine gets so hot that I have to put a blanket down for my dogs to lay on. I dropped my Tire monitor on the floor rug and didn't pick it up. The screen boiled and ruined it so not able to read the output

Wait, don't tell me, oh it is a Thor product. Forgive my attitude but I think it is appalling what Thor has done to some of us. Our 2015 Hurricane does the same thing. The floor and dog house get so hot that I can't even rest my foot on the carpet. We have two folded blankets for the dog. I have had my own health challenges with lung cancer so I have been afraid to even try and remove the dog house cover, but I hope to do so before another summer arrives and make the improvements others have made. I really hope you can get your problem resolved.

Hot !!!

I looked at a 2018 to see if they did anything different but its the same underneath...

A gentleman at Camping World said that he sent a customer to a stereo outlet and the stereo store told me to try a spray like they put on for sound depressant or a bed liner...

Camping World also told me that no one else has had that problem... LOL

I looked into Lizard Skin but it requires a special spray gun but is good to 500 degrees, they also make a spray on sound deadener. Has anyone use it? How is it compared to Dynamat?

In a previous RV which was on the P30 Chevy chassis, we had the same problem....tremendous heat and noise out of our doghouse. I was always trying to improve fuel economy, and installed a Magnaflow high performance muffler to reduce back pressure and increase airflow.

No surprise, it only improved my mpg by .5, BUT it REALLY improved the heat and noise under the dog house.

Dog house was notably cooler and the majority of the engine noise moved from behind the engine to in front of the rear axle.

A third benefit was the reduction in GVWR as the stock muffler must have weighed 150lbs. New muffler was about 20lbs.

We continued to do this on our successive Class A diesels with similar results. They ran cooler and had better performance with a few tenths of mpg improvement. External noise was not an issue. We didn't overly disturb many other campers.

We used different products as well, not just Magnaflow. We also used MBPR and FLowmaster.

YMMV

Heat

Thank You for the information. It is definitely something to think about. What was the approximate cost?
Mike

Most of the mufflers were around $150. Installation ram around $100.

We used the straight thru design. A little louder, but the most effective.

The critical part will be finding a muffler that fits in where your current muffler is located. That will be a good search since everyone will be asking you what kind of vehicle you have.

Most sites/places only show car/truck/suv info. That won't work.

Where do you suggest looking? Customs shops would be quite spendy I would think... Thanks, Mike

In my experience, I always used someone like 'Joe's muffler shop' or 'Mike's Performance Truck center'. But I did shop Midas and other chain muffler locations for price comparison.
