E350 idler pulley missing

Apparently there is no idler pulley on my 2019 e350 although there’s a place for it. Is that usual?
Trying to diagnose the squealing sound that happens on higher RPMs. Belt tensioner has been changed. It’s not that.
Mechanic thinks it might be lack of idler pulley
Any feedback appreciated.

Are you referring to the squeal at about 2200 RPM on a V10 motor? If so, I resolved mine by replacing the belt and the idler pulley assembly. The cutaway chassis does not have the second tensioner that is common on pickups with the V10.

Yes. The belt looks fine. Mechanic will add the idler pulley. Here’s hoping it resolves the squeak/chirping noise. Thanks.

Adding the extra pulley solved my noise problem

I just added the extra pulley on the serpentine belt and my whining/squealing noise is gone! It was a VERY easy install. I just removed the air filter and inlet duct (just had to release one spring-clamp to do this) and that gave enough room to reach down and put the pulley on by hand. The belt was easy to deflect to get the pulley onto the hub/boss and the pulley stayed in place by itself due to the hub. I then reached down and installed the bolt, torqued it properly and reinstalled the air filter. Took about 15 minutes max. Big thanks goes to the folks on this forum that suggested this!

I added the pulley last week, the squealing was really getting to me.
Problem solved.

It was super easy to do, like others mentioned.
