Compass & Gemini & Other Winterizing Notes
Hey guys - Just wanted to bring it to attention that on the 24KB model or perhaps others, the galley sink is on the opposite side of the holding tank. For this reason the drain pipe must first run aft, around the fresh water tank then curves around the rear trunk to the other side of the coach then goes forward again to reach the tank. Because if this distance and insufficient pitch or drop in the line, the drain pipe is always holding water. If fact, if you open the sink cabinet door, you can hear the water slosh back and forth in the drain pipe while driving. Because of the volume of water that remains in the pipe which cannot be drained, you'll need to pour at least a quart of anti-freeze in the galley drain to protect the drain pipe from freezing.
In addition - My Compass did not include a needed winterizing valve for adding anti-freeze to the system. I found a Camco Winterizing kit which works perfect. It comes with a switching valve, fittings and tubing and connects right to the pump intake on your coach. The kit sells for only $20 on Amazon.
When winterizing, keep in mind there is a shut off valve (almost hidden on KB 24) between the water pump and the tank, you'll need to shut that off to prevent either water or air from being drawn in as you add fluid. I included a few images below of the kit and the valve installed - Enjoy!
Stay Safe Mike
