Lost Dutchman State Park Apache Junction, AZ
Anyone been there?
Any hidden nuggets?
Will be there dry camping 4 days next week.
The campground has 135 sites and three group camping areas: 68 sites with electric (50/30/20 amp service) and water and the remainder non-hookup sites on paved roads for tents or RVs. Every site has a picnic table and a fire pit with an adjustable grill gate. There are no size restrictions on RVs. Well-mannered pets on leashes are welcome, but please pick after your pets.

Great area. We winter nearby but have never actually camped in the park. However, we have gone there frequently to hike the many trails that lead up and around Superstition Mountain. Our favourite is the Treasure Loop trail.
Take the short drive to Tortilla Flats - windy road but beautiful desert vistas and, surprisingly, lakes! Tortilla Flat is a tourist trap but fun. Usually a country band playing at the outdoor eatery. A lot of old westerns were filmed in the area.
Just outside the park is the Lost Gold Mine townsite recreating the wild west days of the late 1800’s.
Scottsdale is less than an hour away if you’re into the artsy stuff.
There is so much more - 4 days is not enough. You will come back for more.

I would enjoy a report if you do go. We have not been there but have been a fan of the Lost Dutchman sage since high school. Amazon has or had a series about the area that was interesting.

If you're interested in architecture, there's a Frank Lloyd Wright property near Apache Junction. We spent part of a winter in AJ twenty years ago and liked it until we discovered winter in Florida!

I live about 10 miles from that park, and have stayed there. The park itself is OK but the best thing is that there are things to do in the area.
1) There is nice hike in the park to the mountains and this time of the year the weather is generally perfect for hiking.
2) It is near the town (tourist attraction?) of Goldfield, which is a pseudo Wild West town. We go there occasionally as it is interesting.
3) If you follow the road past the park it goes up to Canyon Lake, which is an interesting place, and the town of Tortilla Flat. There is a general store in what passes for the town that is probably worth a visit and, if you do any off-roading you can go on route 88 to Fish Creek Canyon. The road down into the canyon (and to Lake Roosevelt) is closed due to a fire year ago, but the scenery on the drive is worth the trip.
4) Also near the park is the Superstition Mountain Museum and the associated buildings which used to be part of an old western movie set. The museum is interesting and the old buildings are worth the trip.
There is more, but those are what I think of as the highlights.
Also if you will be traveling through here before early April you could also visit the Arizona Rennaissance Festival which is about 10 miles from Lost Dutchman Park.
