New Orleans question

Hi,
Planning a trip from Florida through Louisiana in January 2022.
We thought of going into New Orleans but NOT with the truck. I saw that they have a ferry to go across Lake Pontchartrain. Has anyone taken it and any information on where you or I might stay on the North side.
ANy information/ pointers would be appreciated.

We stayed at https://www.fqrv.com/ everytime. Walk to the French Qtr. or Uber around.
French Qtr RV is a walled and secured lot. A bit more $ but location, location.

Thanks,
A friend of mine that spends a lot of time there suggested the New Orleans KOA Holiday campground. I booked that.
Good reviews, much cheaper too.

Pontchartrain Landing might be one to look into (http://www.pontchartrainlanding.com). The road to get there is sketchy, but it seems to be popular. If you like a state park setting, there is Bayou Segnette on the West Bank, or St. Bernard State Park.

We stayed at this KOA CG for 3 nights few weeks ago. All sites are back in. Someone will guide you to your spot and assist you in backing in. Friendly staff. We drive from Pensacola, FL to NOLA in our Class A pulling a car on a dolly.

Thanks,
My original thoughts were to camp on the north side of the lake. Not to sure of the safety so close to New Orleans and all. Not sure if it's warranted though, but my friend/neighbor says is a safe area to stay. The web site does state that shuttle service is suspended indefinitely though. Probably like all areas, cannot get people to come back to work.

why would there be any FERRY if there is an INTERSTATE bridge that travels across Lake Pontchartrain? It's the longest in the world...

"The world's longest continuous bridge over water is the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in southern Louisiana. The causeway is actually two parallel bridges, with the longer of the two measuring 23.83 miles. The bridges are supported by 9,500 concrete pilings."

Because some of the ferry's drop you off right downtown and you don't have to try to navigate or park in the city. Take the ferry back to your car at the end of day. We stayed at a navy base near Belle Chasse, drove the jeep to the ferry terminal area and took the boat across. Parking for the jeep was street-side. We didn't stay late in the evening. That was pre-covid lunacy.

We stayed there too and were really glad we did. We were able to walk to almost everything and when we wanted to do a little more we went on the off & on trolley to see all the other things like the WWII museum that are away from the French Quarter. The RV park itself is very safe as it is surrounded by brick walls and is gated. Never had any concern whatever about it. Also, if driving in New Orleans is a concern we didn't find it to be difficult at all. It is right off I-10 requiring maybe 10 blocks of driving on city streets which are more like frontage roads.

Louisiana is closing

New Orleans has locked down again due to c
ovid. They've cancelled Jazzfest again. they're requiring vaccine passports to enter public facilities like restaurants, they've closed schools, and the whole state seems to be headed that direction. If you're planning to come to LA before March, you might want to check their covid status, and maybe reschedule your trip around crazy Louisiana.

I would not recommend the French Quarter RV park. It is in a dangerous part of town and too close to the highway.

I would recommend Pontchartrain Landing. It is also a marina, has a restaurant and provides a daily shuttle to the French Quarter. It has been a couple years since we stayed there but at that time the park also had nightly entertainment in the restaurant playing classic New Orleans music. Good Sams rates the park 9+ on all measures.

Check the website. Hopefully Covid has not harmed their charm.

I would highly recommend NOLA visitors to stay at Bayou Segnette State Park. It offers easy access to the highways, plenty of local shopping and restaurants nearby, and it's reasonably priced with great security.

There are no ferry's that cross lake Pontchartrain, only the Mississippi River at several locations. On the North Shore there several S.P. and a couple closer to NOLA.

We were there for a few days. Would never risk going again. There in January this year. Par d Orleans rv park. Horrible! Entire area there horrible. Can't go out at night.
Downtown New Orleans spent 5 hours walking around.
Bad nasty smelly streets. Police parked all over to catch people. Big church worth seeing and all pecan candy shops. Buy all favors of pecans. My wife had us leave 6am next morning and drive fast
