Has anyone had any luck with ceramic coatings reducing the oxidation of gelcoat?
I’m getting older and am thinking of having a detail shop do the buffing and application. What are the pros and cons of these coatings?

Gelcoat oxidation is caused primarily by UV radiation breaking down the surface. If you are talking about the REAL DEAL ceramic coating (NOT the spray-on stuff from big box stores), get IN WRITING from them a guarantee against oxidation for a determined amount of time in months. The professional coating process is very detailed and meticulous. It often takes a day or so for curing in an indoor facility.
Basic marine grade wax has been used very successfully for years on gelcoat boats and RVs. Wax generally needs re-applied about twice a year for maximum protection. If you keep up on that, it will NEVER oxidize.
The new professionally applied ceramic coatings
should extend that protection... I would hope for a few years. BUT... it's up to you to find out BEFORE investing in a solution that doesn't perform up to expectations.
