Usually that idea won’t work. Most RV toilets have a ball valve in the base that when opened with a flush pedal, drops the contents straight down into the black water tank. At the same time fresh water rinses it.

Rsedential toilets have a p trap that overflows when a big slug of water is released from the tank when the flush valve handle is pushed. The contents overflow the p trap and then down the sewer piping to the sewer system

So the two types are very different and incompatible.

Just an additional note. A residential toilet requires a closet that would take up a ton of space. Residential uses probably 5 times the water per flush. You’d fill your black tank in a heartbeat.

Now if this is for an RV that never goes anywhere, well maybe but it's going to be a bit more that just swapping toilets. Bottom line, stick with an RV type but maybe upgrade to Dometic 320 elongated porcelain bowl. Oh and a real wood soft closure seat. That's RV luxury.

My RV came with little toilets, can you replace with elongated type ones?

Go on the Dometic site and look them up. They will have installation instructions with the dimensions and space needed.

I residential toilet will not work for an RV for the following reasons, first even a 1-gallon flush toilet uses too much water, just consider if you have a 30-gallon black tank that is only 30 flushes before you need to dump. Second a residential toilet takes too much room because of the tank. Third a residential toilet requires a P-trap to keep sewer gasses backing up into the house, there is almost never enough room for this part of the plumbing since RV toilets often dump directly into the black tank.

I suspect that the reference was to install a Residential style RV toilet, see this link.

The answer to this question is perhaps. The clearance to the wall vs the drain can come into play. I did do this in my fifth wheel with a lot of measuring. The difference is not much, but when dome I had less than 1/8 inch clearance to the wall. Note that I used the same brand toilet. Another brand would have not fit. The measurements required are in the installation instructions. You can find them online.

"Cabin" has 2 toilets both gravity and on FHU at the site. Gonna take some wall clearance measurements this weekend when I go down.
