My Magnum ME2012 is an Inverter/Charger - the only shore or gen power that goes to this unit is to the Charger - no 120v power goes to the Inverter, as it’s job is to take the battery’s 12v power and change it to 120v power, and to the breaker box where it powers circuit breakers for things like the residential fridge and microwave outlets, and outlets in general. Which outlets and where is up to how your factory wires your coach.
YOu certainly CAN leave your Inverter ON, if you wish, when you are plugged in or on generator, as it serves as your ‘backup’ power’ should you lose shore power, or when your generator shuts off - in other words, your satellite receiver and other electronics don’t shut off and have to be rebooted or reset, or your microwave’s clock, etc, as the inverter will immediately switch ‘on’ and continue powering these items.
There’s no ‘rule’ to how you do things, it really depends on your own ‘camping’ style and needs.
In three years and over 70,000 miles, we never ‘turned off’ our Inverter - it’s too valuable a tool not to have ON, even when you don’t ‘think’ you need it...
travel, enjoy!
