My Holiday Rambler had the same plastic hook on the door and the flip latch on the frame of the opening. Yes, they break very easily. I started then, and continue now, to replace them as they break with metal latches. The metal blade part mounts on the door, and the female part mounts on the frame of the opening. The blade pushes directly into the female double spring opening and I've never had one to break. Try this link, it's only one style that I've used and have had no trouble:
