My guess is that the (3) nylon bushings in the geahead of the motor have cracked. If that is the case, the step operation will cease totally very soon. Those bushings act with the motor current sensing to absorb energy when the steps need to stop at the end of each extension and retraction cycle. Unlike electric car window gearmotors (that resemble these motors) I could not find replacement pieces for those gearmotors. The ones sold for the car window motors are a different size. Might need to buy relacement motor which cost about $60 the last time I purchased one.
