Actually we were in a sort of similar situation a few years ago.
Near the end of a trip, after driving 800 miles (so not anywhere near close to home) happen to look down at a tire... WOW! All cracked up, looking terrible. Walked around looking at the other tires yup they're all bad. Sigh. (Kind of surprised we made it as far as we did.)
So what would you do? (I did post this question in the forums
here)
Tough it out and try to make the 500+ mile drive home and address the tire situation at home, or immediatly put vacation on hold until you can replace tires?
Granted in this situation its patently obvious that needs to be fixed (unlike some warning lights on the dash that you're not familiar with--you may know or not).
What I did: Ask the campground office if they had any recommended tire shops in the area (they did), wait until Monday for them to open, get new tires and drive home straight from the tire shop.
Of course that did make that trip a bit more expensive but no issues coming home...
