Sorry that I didn't see this earlier. You have probably figured it out by now! The short answer is most probably yes, you need the generator running. There are three methods for getting 110Vac in your RV. 1) Shore power. 2) generator running. 3) Power Inverter which changes 12VDC to 110Vac. The latter is not on all RV's and even if it is, chances are slim that it would supply enough power (watts) to handle your coffee pot. On some larger, high end Motorhomes (and you didn't specify what model you have) they may have inverters of ample size, but again, you will have to know which sockets are connected to the inverter.
