Did the genset work before replacing the batteries? The thing that changed was the batteries. Do house lights and other 12 items work? My money is on the batteries 1) loose connection at the battery or 2) wired in series vs parallel giving you 24 volts vs 12.
Dual batteries in parallel are positive to positive, negative to negative.
