The air conditioner is turned on and off by settings through the thermostat. And there are many different types. Some have slide switches where you set it for A/C, heat, or off. The Dometic thermostat in mine has settings chosen by pressing the MODE switch until the setting you want appears on the screen. In my case, the word "off" appears in tiny letters in the lower right corner of the screen. The A/C continues to run for about 20 seconds before shutting down.

If all else fails, turn off the circuit breaker for the A/C.
