Did have one "self-induced" problem opening it once. It started to rain and I retracted the awning but forgot to take the piece of water pipe insulation (like a pool noodle) that I put on the arm to keep the entrance door from banging into the support arm. The insulation got jammed in the support arm and would not allow the awning to open. Pulled out the insulation and all was fine again.
My door used to hit my awning support until I adjusted the opening rod cylinder.

My Carefree Awning wouldn't extend either. Issue was each arm was getting stuck on the frame from glue. The glue came from velcro tape the arms came into contact with when stored, apparently melted onto the arms. After cleaning the glue from the 3 arms all works good now.

Before replacing the switch try cleaning the contact with some 600 or 800 grit wet/dry sandpaper, I've saved a lot of money on switches over the years by doing this. Unless the switch is physically broken.

This sounds like the problem I am having - starts to come out but then gets stuck. I purchased and old style awning hook online and use this to separate the awning arm when it starts to open - very frustrating to have to do this.

Do you have the style without arms! Can you describe in a little more detail what you did to resolve the problem?

Thanks

Darren

It does sound like a similar issue I was having. The awning started to come out and stopped after 1-2 inches. I had to get up on a ladder and apply outward pressure while my wife pressed on the open switch. Our awning has 3 arms, at the visible bottom part of the elbow of each arm I noticed glue buildup which at that point they came into contact with velcro tape inside the frame when fully in. I cleaned the glue off of the elbows and the inside frame where they landed next to the velcro with solvent (I used goo gone). No problem since..

Also be aware that slides, awnings and the overhead bunk will not operate with the key in the ignition. There has to be a solenoid or something in the circuit to keep them from working that if it goes bad nothing will work at all. It would be nice to know what and where it is just in case. My overhead bunk came loose on one side as I was driving down the road. I pulled over to the side and proceeded to get it back up. Nothing would work. I dreaded getting to the campground and having to track down the problem. Arriving at the campground after getting everything put up I tried the overhead bunk and it worked. That's when I figured out the key in the ignition problem.
