House Batteries Charge

Does anyone know if the House Batteries on the Thor 30.2 are charged when engine is running, from the alternator?
Thanks
Ralph

They are on the Axis and Vegas. The USE/STORE switch must be in the USE position though. They charge the house batteries through the Battery Control Center (BCC) or the Trombetta/BIRD depending on how the Vega/Axis is configured.

I'd be surprised if the ACE is not similarly configured. Do you have the electrical wiring diagrams for your VIN from Thor customer service? If not you should go to the Owners section of the Thor Motorhome website. Here is the link to their Customer Care site. While you are asking for the electrical drawings, ask them for the fresh water, waste water, and dash harnesses as well.

Correct Ed. The Middleton Run coaches are wired the same. When you start the engine and the voltage in the charging circuit reaches 14 volts, there is a 90 second delay before the charging system checks the voltage in the house batteries. Should the house batteries voltage be below 12.8 volts the BIRD relay closes allowing full alternator voltage to charge the house batteries. The same circuity charges the charges the chassis battery when the generator or or shore power is powering the coach and the engine is not running. You are correct the store/use switch must be in the use position to charge the house batteries from any source. There is a 50 amp fuse and relay in the converter/charger circuit to the house batteries. Should the relay fail the house batteries can only be charged by the engine alternator. Been there!
