Solar Awning Problem Solver

During my 2 week trip ending today, I had a problem with the Solar Awning by Lippert Components. The awning went half way out and stopped. Could not retract or extend. Traced it to a blown fuse in the panel. Why did the fuse blow.

One of the Thor highly trained hamburger academy recruited assembly workers installed the awning with the cable to the awning running down the center of the arm. The problem with this is that after several operations, the hinge point where the gas piston is mounted crushed the cable and caused a short. Check yours. Pop off the plastic trim running inside the arm and move the cable to the side, not the center. Put trim back on to keep cable on either side of the hinge.

I had to cut and splice with butt connectors. Luckily the excess cable was dangling inside the hole leading to the arm.
