Is this the portable Dish Tailgater? If so, be sure that you have a good line of sight to the 3 satellites without any trees or limbs obstructing the view from them, (I use the free app on my smart phone, Dish for My RV to locate them in the SSW sky to see if there is anything obstructing the line of sight), point the dish with the opposite side from the handle facing SSW and then go thru the setup procedure with the receiver after connecting the cable and powering it up.
If you've done all this and it doesn't get past step 2 in a few minutes (about 5 mins. max.), unplug the receiver and start over with the on screen set up procedure.
If this doesn't work and you continue to have trouble with it, I would suggest calling Dish support. Good luck with it.
