I run both engines every week during the winter while the cover is still on. You just have to make sure that the exhaust pipe(s) are not under the cover. In my case they both poke out below the cover.

To provide a load on the genny I use a small electric space heater and sometimes in combination with a hair dryer or the convection microwave oven as running the A/C in really cold temps isn't that good for it.
