DEF Tank & MPG

I'm new to DEF.
What's the DEF tank size (gallons) on the Magnitude/Omni F550?
What's the DEF mpg? Or, ratio of DEF / Diesel mpg?
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. I don't have an answer specific to your motor home. I have a Mercedes Benz Chassis and it holds 5 gallons of DEF. I usually get about 700 miles per gallon of DEF while on the road. I recently returned from Utah after travelling almost 1400 miles and used almost 2 gallons of DEF.

I've also got a Sprinter, and we've made a point to fill ours at every second diesel fill-up.

Looking online, it appears that the F550 should hold just over 7 gallons per Ford.

My Freightliner S2RV chassis has a 10 gallon DEF tank and I get approx 250 miles per gallon of DEF with my Cummins ISB 6.7. I normally fill my DEF tank with the fuel fillip after the DEF gauge reads 1/2 tank. At that point it takes a little over 4 gallons of DEF.

DEF mpg

Wow: 700 mpg for the MB Sprinter & 250 mpg for Cummins.

Where's the Ford F550 owners out there?

DEF Tank & MPG

I have a 2020 Magnitude SV34. I typically get 9.5 - 10.5 MPG towing and get well over 500 miles per fill-up. I have gone 7 - 10 full-ups before adding DEF. I have not gotten to a low DEF condition yet so Iíve had room to spare.

That puts me well over 500 MPG of DEF or so. Iím at the point I donít worry about DEF. I donít even carry it with me.

I think I remember reading in the Ford manual that a full tank of DEF should be able to last until the computer calls for an oil change or so.

They're out in their driveways: filling up you know what...

Another Sprinter RV, also 700 mpg of DEF. I track mileage and at 1700 miles add a 2.5 gallon jug of DEF. Just fits.

I don't think I'm anywhere near that mileage. I'm down around 400 mpg...

The Sprinter also gets between 17 and 18MPG of diesel, so it would stand to reason that it would use less DEF, too. I didn't really track ours, but when the gauge approached 1/2 I filled the DEF tank. I will say, I did not have to do that very often. The Sprinter is one of the more efficient vehicles that motorhomes are built onto.

XG32 Omni, the DEF tank will hold a little over 7 gallons, It's hard to figure a ratio on the DEF because it depends on driving conditions , mountains VS flat land, heavy and towing VS light and not towing, windy VS not windy, heavy right foot VS light right foot, you get the picture. We have a little over 8k miles on ours now and I have added 7.5 gallons to the DEF tank, I have never run it down past a 1/4 tank and I have never actually completely filled the tank either. When it gets close to a 1/4 tank left I just add one of the 2.5 gallon containers to it.

I have a Ram 3500 CTD, it holds 5.5 gallons. In 5 years of full timing I average about 340 mpg. This is towing a 21k 5ver. Ram states in there manual, do not top off. When I get below a 1/4 tank I fill it up.

I've seen posts in here from Sprinter owners about having trouble getting the "low DEF" warning to clear.
To be safe: keep it above one-quarter tank!

Thanks for the info!
Iíll be interested to see what mpg Iíll get, with mountain driving plus towing toad.
Sounds like something to watch but not fret about.

Similar results on the 2018 35SF (2017 F550 chassis). I have just over 10K on it and added DEF once...it's half full now. There's a gauge on the dash just like the fuel gauge. The DEF usage will vary depending on driving conditions. The system doesn't add DEF all the time. It only draws the fluid during the regeneration process...as it cleans the particulate filter. DEF doesn't have a long shelf life so don't stockpile it.

Gritz,
How will you know that the DEF has died of old age?

There is a code on each container that tells you the plant it came from and the date it was produced. The self life will depend on how it was stored. The cooler the better self life. You can pull up a YouTube video that explains how to read the code.

Thanks!
But what might happen if you put the old stuff in the tank?
