Fan running/clicking noise?
Hey guys, um, what's that metal plate on the starboard side of my Gemini that says "Hot"? I assume it's an exhaust outlet, but for what? The Girard tankless water heater? I only ask because it's making a clicking noise, and every once in a while the fan turns on.
Were I the guessing kind, I would say that the water heater is attempting to ignite, but I have the gas valve turned off, and I think I turned off the Girard, but it's hard to tell. The display says E1, which means ignition failure, but I don't want it to ignite, I want it to be OFF! Is there some kind of hocus-pocus I need to do to turn it completely off?

On my ACE that outlet is for the furnace exhaust. The clicking noise would be the furnace trying to light. Fan runs when furnace comes on

Perhaps you have the thermostat set to heat, with the gas off. If this is the case, and the temperature goes below the thermostat setting, the furnace fan will come on and the furnace will try to ignite producing a clicking sound. I know this because I brushed up against the thermostat and inadvertently set the selector to "heat". Later on I heard the fan come on and the furnace try to ignite.

I have read that the water heater has a freeze prevention system on it that will operate rather the propane is on or not. It activates at low temp automatically. Could this be the issue??

I turn my Girard off, there is a small white rocker switch.

HP stands for "Heat Pump" which is the electric alternative to the furnace. I think. When it is on, the furnace allegedly isn't.

Where is this switch located? I thought that by hitting the On/Off switch when it was On, would turn it off? Silly me...In any case, no matter how many times I press the on/off, it still reads E1 like it's still trying to suck in LPG.

I suppose, but is there a bypass for this? Or...am I supposed to leave the LPG valve open 24/7 for this purpose?

Bottom line: am I in imminent danger of a warp core breach?

Never mind!
Cancel red alert, secure from general quarters. I figured it out.
All this time, I have never known where the water heater actually is.
Apparently, it's behind that metallic-looking plate with the exhaust port. I just now saw the little fingertip opening mechanism, I opened it up, and lo and behold, there was my water heater. And there, as advised above, was the white rocker switch (thank you Petefoss). It was on, I turned it off. Problem solved? Stay tuned....

Antifreeze Device
If you wish to operate the water heater in potentially freezing conditions the model GSWH-2 has a built in thermostat that will start the burner whenever the temperature of the Heat Exchanger falls below 38oF and will automatically shut off when it senses a temperature in excess of 58 o F
