Axis/Vegas 2nd Black Valve Mod
My 2018 Axis 25.3 has a 2nd black valve on the passenger side. The bathroom in the 25.3 is on the passenger side and that's where the black tank is located with a long transverse pipe to the driver's side for dumping. I assume the valve's purpose is to prevent sludge build up in the transverse drain line. Some have commented that they leave the valve open, but I can see the logic of having that valve.
However, the design is less than desirable to say the least. Having to reach under the rig is not helpful for someone with a disability such as me. And then having to do a vertical motion instead of push/pull to use the valve is a literal pain. And finally, the valve is pointed down so that all the sludge is flowing over the valve gate rather than just beside it.
Therefore I'm entertaining a modification and have two options. The pictures below are looking up as I'm lying under the rig. Front is up and rear is down. Quite the circuitous route for the piping and valve.
Option 1: replace the valve with a cable valve. I would install the valve handle in the compartment with the other valves which would make it really easy to dump.
Option 2: modify the piping so that the valve can be relocated pointing to the passenger side. Then install a small compartment door to get to the valve. More work to dump since you have to go to both sides of the rig but better than the current design.
I am leaning towards option 1, but I have never had a rig with cable valves. Are they reliable? Does the cable need more maintenance than the valve?
Thanks in advance for all your wise counsel.
