Smile Fix for Microwave thermal shutdown

The High Pointe microwave ECO28BMR in our 2023 Compass was not working correctly. I could heat one coffee and one hot chocolate but not the oatmeal. This occurred on generator power, on shore power and in a test case. Inside the cabinet the thermal fuse would get too hot and cause the microwave to power off. Each time there was a faint whiff of hot electronics. So we knew the fuse was doing its job. Each time the microwave would turn itself back on after 8 minutes.

Jim pulled the High Pointe microwave out of the cabinet. Using the same cord and same outlet the microwave could be set on the floor, where it ran perfectly. No thermal overheating.

He noticed that the silver colored add-on ducting on the top was SLIGHTLY collapsed, somewhat restricting the exhaust air flow. It did not match the front grill work above the microwave. See red circle in photo. Photo is looking at the top of the microwave which is sitting on the floor. Click image for larger version

Jim pushed the ducting upward and reinstalled the microwave in the cabinet. The microwave has operated perfectly in multiple tests thus far.

Success!

Welcome aboard. I see you’ve already started having fun finding the “bugs” that Thor leaves for new owners. Glad you got it handled. Thanks for sharing in case others discover the same issue.
