Newbie Generator Dilema

Hi all. Loving my new Tellaro 20L. It did not come with a generator because it’s solar and the van charges the coach. But as you all know the AC on solar doesn’t last long and I’d rather not run the van for so long when it’s hot. So I tried plugging in my external 30 amp generator but it doesn’t charge the battery system. When it’s plugged in to rv campsite power it charges fine. I use the same cord when I plug it into generator and won’t charge the system. Any ideas? Anything would help!

It might be due to your generator using what's called a "floating neutral". You should research this concerning your specific portable generator, and grounding methods.

There may be another reason, but at least that's where I'd start, because it's pretty simple.

It is fairly simple to add a grounding plug to your generator to solve the problem mentioned above. Get a 3 to 2 plug with a ground tab like this one- https://www.amazon.com/GE-Polarized-...s%2C94&sr=8-25

Plug it in and hopefully your generator has a grounded screw that fits right on the tab. If not you might have to cobble up a jumper from the tab to a ground screw on the generator.

I grounded the generator into the ground to try that also. Still didn’t work.

Nothing tripped. Generator putting out power. Just not charging the RV
