From A recent trip to Colorado

we recently took a trip from south florida to colorado
unfortunately we took the southern route, only to discover that there was no insulation between us and the engine.
once we got to colorado we got that fixed.... but lets just say it was a very HOT ride.

How exactly did you insulate (and with what material)?

They would have had to include Pacific Coast Hiway ( Hiway 1) in California..We had always seen numerous RVs along there, and was just about to get brave <grin> By the way, how was your trip to Colorado?

Hi Mike....we feel the same as you do regarding the Pacific Coast Hiway...as kid we drove it several times...guess, now, if we want to make the drive, we will camp and ride the motorcycle...

Our trip to Colorado was, once again, amazing, beautiful and fun. Ron had ridden many of the high country trails/roads on his off road motorcycle with his friends in past visits...however, this time we rented a jeep and did several of the high country passes..along with other family members who had off road vehicles..ie Razor & Renegade.... Magnificent !! I am lobbying for a 2 seat Razor which would fit in our trailer for future trips ! Since we had a couple of family members along, who had never rv'd before, we made some side trips and stayed several nights out, on our way to Ouray.
By the way...don't go to Beulah, CO ! ha ! Beautiful drive south out of Pueblo..but, not exactly what I was told it would be. Did get a couple neat shots of local art.

I didn't think there was anything beautiful out of Pueblo ( unless you go west)

Still planning on going to Colorado next month, but had to wait and get warranty body work done on the VEGAS for a crack in the end cap.

Hope the repairs are speedy and go well. We still need to address our generator problem.

Re: CO .. We knew the mtns south of Pueblo were nice..but, roads are not that great...Like you...WEST is much better....we love Salida and that area..truthfully, for us...we have not been to an area we did not like.

I am born n raised in Albuq...I was looking at going to Angel Fire, Eagles Nest, Taos, Red River etc for another trip...have been to that area a lot as a kid...if we don't go to Wisconsin/Minnesota..this year, we may head back out there.

We hired a mobile RV person that was recommended by the campsite we were stating in.
I would have to ask my husband but there was talk of using a Jute material for sound insulation and then a normal reflective material for the heat that was coming from the engine... the doghouse was so hot on the trip to colorado it almost burned you if you touched it. I have before and after photos of the doghouse... but cant seem to figure out how to add them to this. But there was absolutely no glue or any indication that there had ever been any insulation there. we called Thor but since we were the second owners they said we were on our own. We still need to do more... the trip home was better but still warm and of course we had generator issues to go along with it... so we could not run the house air to keep things cooler, when we were going down the road.

This was at a Michigan State Park (Sleepy Hollow just North of Lansing, MI).
Thanks for the picture. We have reservations at Sleepy Hollow overnight, up and back, for our August trip to the UP. Have never been to Michigan before.

Stopped at Devil's Tower KOA earlier today after leaving Deadwood. We are currently in Spearfish, SD at the Black Hills KOA for the night.

This Spearfish KOA is great and we have an awesome site next to a little stream that the pups enjoyed a dip in.

Here we are this past weekend prior to the huge leak test last night:

The camper did survive the downpours quite well--can't say the same for the chairs as they are currently drying out in our garage.

This was at a Michigan State Park (Sleepy Hollow just North of Lansing, MI).
Jamie, I am very interested in getting ahold of the hinges pictured in the attached picture. Can you help me?

Tks,

Dino

Thanks for the photos. Was there carpeting on the outside of the doghouse? If no, perhaps a layer of carpet would provide more insulation to help keep the heat out.

No no carpeting on the doghouse... believe me i had blankets and towels
piled on that when we were headed to Colorado.. unfortunately it took me a day or so to think of it... it helped some but not enough.

Dino: One of the doors on our Axis has those hinges; where to get them I'm not sure. Perhaps some Amazon queries:Nope. Google searching: maybe this guy Spring Hinge (I don't think so though).

You could call Thor if you have some on your unit.
