Holy Crap!

Or perhaps more accurately: "I've got questions about sewer hoses."

We pick up our new rig (A 2018 Outlaw 29H) on Saturday.
Who would have thought that something so expensive: doesn't come with a "Stinky Slinky", already in the cargo hold?
Question:
Do all motorhomes use the same type of hose, and the same type of connection fittings?
Are swiveling connections important?
How much hose should I start out with: 15,20, or 25 feet?

(Ojay: THREE questions!)

Thanks guys!

Unless there is a macerator involved - they all should use the standard 'stinky slinky'... They really should give you something - though it won't be the best quality.
I'd suggest two 15' lengths of a good quality hose (cheapest may not be best - but don't have to get ridiculous either...)
I don't personally think swivels are required - but they don't hurt either.

You also need a connector to allow sealed connection to sewer (many locations require it) like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Valterra-F02-...dp/B002N5L9N2/

I suggest a short clear fitting where you join to the RV - whether straight, 45 degree or other depends on your rig's setup. But good to be able to see... This is the 45 degree version:

Dominator is my personal favorite, very tough and durable, easy to handle. You can get it delivered to your door from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Valterra-D04-...+rv+sewer+hose

Depending on your setup you may also want a straight or elbow connection, get the clear ones so you can see what's coming out.

Any dealer worth their salt will "give" you brand new 20' of sewer hose, a fresh water hose, some black tank chemicals and usually a small package of toilet paper........... even on a used motorhome or trailer.

Speaking of a macerator, what kind of adapter for a sealed connection on the small hose?

If you purchase a Dominator kit it comes with every thing you need except a clear elbow or straight piece.

Thanks for the advice!
I'll see what they're willing to throw in on the deal...

...And then see what I REALLY need!

I purchased a Flojet macerator on EBay. Less than two hundred. It hooks right up to gate valve. Also purchased a one inch black gray hose that is fifty feet. I can dump into a toilet if a dump station isn't available. It works great and has a built in back flush valve. You do need twelve volts to run it..

"Macerator"?
Is that like a garbage disposal unit; but hooked up to a different part of the plumbing system?

In short yes! It grinds up the waste and then pumps it out a hose. Usually a smaller 1" diameter hose. Some units can pump 100' and several feet uphill. Very nice to have!

The macerator pumps are great but you must have, or run, 12v power to the wet bay to run the pump. Not all wet bays can accommodate a macerator due to physical limitations.

I can't believe that I've learned more about crap now, than I did when I was being potty-trained: all those long years ago!

Sewer Solutions

I got rid of my "stinky slinky" and got a Sewer Solutions. I love how compact it stores and it doesn't require electricity, but uses water to macerate the waste and will "pump" up to a 100 feet. It does take a little longer to empty a tank is the only downside I see. My $0.3 (inflation).

I did a lot of research and also ended up with the "sewer solution"...it is awesome and has worked flawlessly for us. Rolls up like a hose after rinsing and no worries of "stuff" still being inside it...hook up is fast and it dumps fast too...so glad I went with this product.... I got the original with 10ft hose and also have 2 extra 10ft sections if I'm ever in a spot I need it...

Same here. I have 2 black tanks and made an adapter out of PVC. As mentioned, it takes longer, but I like the results. I also don't need to prop the 3" hoses up to drain properly.

Thanks for this advice!
The Missus and I are going to "stick to basics" right out of the gate. No grinding and pumping for the time being...
So now the questions can become a bit more forcused...
Are all of the bayonet lug hoses and holding tank drains compatible?
And most importantly: what would you suggest for Chemicals to put into the tanks?

Thanks again!

So far all the bayonet type hoses I have seen are compatible... Some swivel, some are fixed... I do recommend a short clear adapter so you can 'see' the results - lets you know when flushing.

As for chemicals - I'm sure you will get MANY different answers. Here is what we use: https://www.amazon.com/Walex-BIO-721...003YMATI4?th=1
Bought the smaller size to start - and get the measure/pour spout - then the LARGE refill since. Biodegradable...
We've had no issues using it.

We're looking at sewer hose kits right now, and they all seem to come with clear 90 degree adapters...
Not that I'm all that keen on seeing the results of my mealtimes!!

Oh! Thanks for the tip on the chemicals also!
I can't wait to throw some in the tank, and let the "opposing forces" battle it out!
