Having the "latest and greatest" version of a particular software is not always optimal (Read: Adobe, Microsoft...). Every software release has bugs. If you've ever relied on a particular proprietary software for your livelihood, you likely learned to leave "well enough" alone. You milked a familiar version as long as possible to avoid the inevitable PIA issues which come with upgrades.
While some folks get giddy at the thought of having the very latest, I usually dreaded going through the contortions and workarounds for compatibility issues. There are no guarantees that when broken things get fixed, more hidden things get broken. AND they always seem to show up at the most inconvenient time...
