I use the Surge Guard 50A portable unit. Been happy with it.

Portable Progressive EMS (what I've had for 10+ years) or hardwired, the main thing is GET ONE. Should be mandatory on all rvs.

Ditto here to!

With the monitor mounted in the coach you can keep an eye on volts and amps on each leg of your input. Great piece of equipment!

We have the portable Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X. Works well, no issues so far. A little pricey though but one of the better units. One issue though might be theft while unattended.

Not saying it cannot happen, but has anyone experienced a theft yet? Where did it happen?

We use the Camco Dogbone 50Amp RV Circuit Analyzer. With the power grip handles, I use a cable lock through the holes on the handle, and wrapped around the campsiteís power pedestal, and a second short firearm cable lock secured through the holes on the female side, and through the handle on to the coachís male power cable connector.... So I donít give any further thought to theft.

I prefer the visual circuit analyzer type dogbone plugged into the power pedestal end of things, because I can plug in and test the power source quality BEFORE I apply power to the RV. If the indicators on the dogbone light up correctly, then it is safe to apply power to my rig.

Ours came with a cable lock. Yes, someone can cut the lock or cable, but they wonít be walking off with it casually. They can also break into the Rav compartments, take the exterior TV, the on board generator, or go inside and take my GPS, TPMS, radios, etc. I havenít heard of much campground theft when they have to cut or break in, mostly only crimes of opportunity.

Hopefully I never experience that, I tend to take it very personally when my stuff is stolen or vandalized.

I have always used the 30 amp version and I like it for the same reasons you gave. If someone really wants to commit theft, they can always do it but at least the way you secure yours is a deterrent from a quick grab.
