The metal plate on the riser has 12-13 holes, the same number of holes/screws that your picture had. So it appears that the hinge is first installed on the step tread, they when placed in position, the screws that go through the hinge holes should line up with the riser plate holes and the damn thing won't come apart and propel me outside. That's about the size of it. Guess they forgot something

Yep see pic. Upside down but you get the idea.
Funny but if you double click the picture it ends up correct orientation.

That part of the hinge with the holes should be like this, not under when the step is open. I removed the latch, that's why you don't see it. The picture is the same orientation as yours to give you an idea of what its should look like.
FYI-when I click on your picture, it comes out upright.

When I look at my post and the attached thumbnail it's upside down. When I click on it it's upright. The orientation on yours is good and stays upright if I click on it. I have now figured out how it should be installed and taking it in to CW to get one installed. Thor CS wants it into an "authorized service facility".
Why did you remove the latch? Likely because like mine, my heel hits it stepping out and tends to release the latch. Course if had a hinge on the step the tread would also stay in place.

Yes, kept kicking it and it was a pain to unlock. We also turned that area into a storage box. I enclosed it and sealed it and wanted quick access.

I'm sure you mentioned it in another thread but did you swap for lithium and relocate the batteries? If so where did you put them, with the inverter?

I realize my coach is not exactly like yours (mine is a Chateau 24F), but a picture is worth a thousand words. Here are some pics of how my step is constructed/installed. Bear in mind - I modified the height of the step to allow for the additional height of my 6volt GC2 batteries - there's a thread on this forum somewhere. You can see the (painted black) approx. 1" tall wood frame I installed to raise the step for battery clearance.
Other than the "cheesy" carpet Thor insists on putting in the class C, it appears very similar. The following pics show:
The step itself is a rectangular metal "box" - probably both for strength and to allow for screws to protrude without going clear through. The rubber mat is wrapped over and screwed in the corners.
The piano hinge has 12 holes on both flaps of the hinge. Thor chose to use only six of those hole when attaching both sides of the hinge. I did the same when reattaching the step during my mod, but I used considerably longer screws.
If anything, maybe you can get some ideas from this in case you do your "fix" yourself. Cheers!

Thanks yes helpful. Right now the dealer gets first crack at it since they owe me some parts from a previous warranty claim. The hinge itself doesn't need 12 screws actually since the hinge's function is to allow it to pivot AND not come apart and become a step launching ramp. GMthrust had a picture that as I recall had all the screw holes used. Nice consistency and quality construction at the factory

Yes to lithium and relocation. Moved to the Bin that had the inverter. Currently have 9 BBorn 100ah batts-we removed the generator and created another storage bin-pics to come soon once the supports are installed.

12 screws are definitely NOT needed! I only used six. Considering that most of the force on the step is downward, the screws are to prevent fairly minimal horizontal forces sliding the step off the support.
I have found all sorts of components mounted throughout our coach where there were maybe 4 intended screws - and Thor used only one or two at most! Just "failure points" waiting to fall apart!

All fixed
Took it to a dealer to finish up a couple other warranty items and they installed a hinge. All safe now. I did bring it to the attention to Thor CS and hopefully they passed it along to someone responsible for that at the factory. For Thor it could have been a big liability issue is I or someone else had injured themselves and high medical costs. It's one thing to strip out a cabinet screw, another to be negligent in safety issues.
