Colorado Springs

We are planning a RV trip from MN to Rapid City then to Colorado Springs in late June

Been to Rapid City many times, but it's been a long time since we've been to Colorado Springs.

What is the drive like from RC to Colorado Springs?

We have a 2021 Thor Omni sv34 towing our Jeep.

Thanks

Very easy but very busy when you get in close

We typically stay at the Garden of the Gods Resort, but book very early

To add to what lwmcguire said, try to avoid Denver if possible, and if you must go through there, DO NOT go through during rush hour.

As for RV parks, there are a number of them in and around Colorado Springs, most of which are close to either the interstate or to major highways like US-24. When we retired in 2014, we moved our RV (living in it full time) to Colorado so the wife could have some sister time with her two sisters up that way. We stayed at Mountaindale Cabins and RV Resort, which is southwest of the Springs on highway 115, roughly 20 miles from the Springs. It is a very popular park because it is pretty secluded from major traffic. But, it is more expensive than most of the others. One would need to reserve well in advance.

Here is a link to some photographs that I took in and around Mountaindale.

To add to Terry and Jo's comment

Avoid Denver at rush hour for sure and stay off the toll bypass unless you have about 50 bucks to waste

Lots of accidents during rush hour on a good day and worse in rain

definitely go see Garden of the Gods while in the area and Pikes Peak

New center should be open and the Cog Railway might be by then

I would go through Chadron and Scottsbluff, NE, down to Brush and Limon, CO. This will keep you away from the crazy Denver traffic and you'll see a lot of the great plains.

If you want an unusual side trip, swing by Alliance, NE to see Carhenge. I will never see Stonehenge, but Carhenge was doable with a few extra miles. They have added a visitor center since we stopped by.

Thanks for the directions, my wife would like to see Carhenge. She liked Stonehenge when we were there a few years ago

I'd find a way to go through Moab and through dinosaur national park(or waht23ver its called in eastern Utah)
I dont know if
Peacock mine
Is open this time of year.
Right on the northern Utah border.

Through Moab is always the best route for us.

I sometimes feel like we're the only two people who have ever seen the waterfall near Moab....

Let us know what you think of Carhenge, after seeing the real thing across the pond.

BTW, it's only about 400 miles from Colorado Springs to Moab, over the Rocky mountains. Great destination, if you have the luxury of time. By contrast, Pikes Peak is just 30 miles from Colorado Springs. Whatever your route, have a great trip!

IN ADDITION TO COLORADO SPRINGS...if you have time go south to Pueblo then west to Canyon City, and Salida....YOU will love having your Jeep in the Salida area ! We stay at 4 Seasons RV Park on the Arkansas River...get reservations...no cable and not much tv ... but a good place to stay near Salida....
