Grand Canyon and "The Train"

Just booked 4 days at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park for us and kids/grand kids. We got the "Buddy Site" which has one rig pull in and the other back in to give you a big center area between the rigs. Also booked passage on "The Train" to the Grand Canyon and back.

Should be a great time!

Have a great time. We are here right now for 3 nights. If you still can try to book the Polar Express. They are SOLD out and are non-refundable. Once in a while, i see some available slots. But we have 3 dogs.

The Polar Express is a Christmas time thing. The train goes to the Grand Canyon in the summer.

The train passes our place close enough we can hear their whistle and see it from our property 8 miles out of town.
To your east You'll see a big ol' hill with a dead straight red road up it to seemingly nowhere. That's my nowhere.
Wave when you go by.

(And if you break down I'm good for tools or a jump)

Hey, Duck! I’m so glad I was searching the forums! We are in the Railway RV park for a few days. Do you know where we might be able to purchase some Boiler antifreeze for our AquaHot? Also any tips on things we should do/see while we are here would be great!

Thanks in advance,
Pam

Does it use regular rv antifreeze?
If so I have two gallons of pink here just hanging out.
Free. The Behemoth(my shop)is now heated....
Otherwise the closest rv place is in Belmont 30ish miles east on i40.
Take the bellmont truck Stop exit(I'm pretty sure bellmont only has one exit), a right and immediate left onto part of old 66. You'll see their lot just past the harley dealer(they're the only two businesses on that stretch...half mile maybe)

And
I don't remember if its 515 or 550, but about 6 miles south of the gc airport, on the east side is a road marked either 515 or 550. 2.5 miles down that very good dirt road and through an unlocked gate is the old gc airport.
Teddy Roosevelt
Henry Ford
Amelia Airheardt
Lindburg
Thomas Edison

All flew in to this airport.
The hanger still stands proud, the Sears/craftsman duplex housing still stands.

You've caught me swamped this weekend.
One sister in law left yesterday, another due in the morning, my first Personal Assistant is on her way to her life long dream in Fon de Lac and is stopping by as her last hoorah in Arizona, and I'm hovering over an electrician all day tomorrow.

If you need the antifreeze I'll drop it off or you can drop by.

When you pass the second gas station while on the train, you'll see my mountain to the north of it.
As you ask out loud;
'My god! Are those roads on the side of that?'

Yes they are.
That 45° on the right of the picture...that's the railroad.

No, it needs boiler antifreeze. We also thought it needed regular until we researched after discovering yesterday it was low on fluid. Thankfully, we are still operational. We think the rough road from Moab might have sent some of the fluid into the overflow. Thank you so much for the offer, though. From when I first joined this forum maybe 5 years ago? You have been one of my favorite members. You always have helpful and fun things to contribute. We are taking the train on Sunday. I’ll try to determine which gate is yours and send you a big wave and hug! I’m from Texas near the Louisiana border. We are huggers!

To seem like an expert on the area you'll pass through on the train,
Look up
Pygmy Forest.
It's a real thing and its where we live and is also on the south rim between hermit and the el tovar hotel(great dessert cart there)

El Tovar is our traditional lunch place on our first real snow day.

Thank you so much! I will look up all of the things you have mentioned. My husband is all about desserts, lol. Have a wonderful weekend, Duck, and thanks again for all you do in this forum!

And
The food SUCKS in Williams
Except
Anna's for breakfast.
She's in the old who're-house, I think there's a mannequin in red lingerie in a second floor window.

She's across from the zip line about 100feet on the opposite corner from the visitor center. Not on the corner, the next door east. She works the floor herself everyday.

Chile Verde over chicken fried steak, two eggs, hash browns and beans, toast or tortilla.
It's a tradition for us before a trip(and any other excuse)

The cheese enchiladas and eggs are just as good.

(Lunch is edgy everywhere except el tovar at the Canyon)

We will definitely have to find Anna’s

Thanks again!
