New England / CT turnpike travel?

I use RVParky as a planner. I’m planning a trip to Connecticut. When I showed this trip to my brother, a former semi driver, he warned me about the turnpikes and low bridges along the way. I know my 40’ class A isn’t allowed on turnpikes, so I changed it to head north at Allentown and take 476 to 209 north, then on to 84. I’m ASSuming that since there’s RV parks along that route, I shouldn’t have any “turnpike” related issues. And checking the clearances, I’m 13’6” so if RVParky is accurate (another ASSumption) my height shouldn’t be an issue.

Has anyone traveled this route between stops 1-2-3, routes 476, 209 and then 84? Can I take the 40 footer on it? I’ll also be towing a toad…

I use a Garmin 770. It allows me to put in my specs, height, length, weight, etc. It is then supposed to route me to my destination as to avoid issues such as low overhead. RVParky is a free app to locate campgrounds and gas stations. I would not rely on it.

I think you are confusing "turnpikes" with "parkways". Turnpikes such as the NJ Turnpike are open to all types of vehicles and have no height restrictions that would bother you. Parkways OTOH are usually limited to passenger cars and often have low height bridges.

Also any Interstate highway such as I78 heading east from Allentown, Pa is open to all vehicles.

I do have to be careful about Google Maps routings. I once was routed along the Taconic Parkway in NY State only to find that out a mile or so before entering the parkway. Unfortunately it does not have a setting for truck routes.

If you can get to 84: you're home-free!

Route change

thanks all! I did a little research - here’s the new route plan.

I will bet that this Google Maps route is shorter and faster: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Mays...41.6717648!3e0

I live about 15 miles from Bristol, Ct and have done this route several times. Recently I did the northern route which isn't much longer but the traffic at the Newburgh Bridge was a bear, so stick with the shorter, middle one.
