If you go the lower route...lots to do...Roswell, NM...Tombstone, AZ. If you go the upper route, OKC, Winslow, AZ...Jerome, AZ and tons in between. Search for the post "Wild, Wild West" I started early this year. The 12 printed pages of sites to see posted by so many here could be published into a "best places to see" book. Look for "Duckface" to enter the room. Follow his lead...along with any others. Someone here a bit more savy than I can post the link to that Post. It covers most everything along your route and beyond.

BTW, I did transfer that entire post to a printable word doc. If you want it, PM me an email address. It was an amazing addition to our routing.

As I recall there is not a lot of campgrounds between San Antonio and El Paso along I10 there are places to stop for gas and food but not much more. Personally, I would take the northern route, stop somewhere near Fort Worth, again in Amarillo and then Gallup NM. That way you can get a good steak dinner at the first two stops. Although the better place for the steak would be the Big Texan restaurant in Amarillo. You could even stay at the Big Texan RV park, they run a limo shuttle from the RV park to the steak house and back. Then you can indulge in an adult beverage at dinner and not worry about driving back to your RV.

If you travel along I40 in New Mexico, stop by the Las Vegas New Mexico KOA. It is about 30 miles off of I40 and worth the time.

If you have never been to Verde Valley and Jerome, it is well worth the time to do so. Both routs will allow you to see nice places to visit. Perhaps north path to and south going back. Watch the weather. There is hurricane Hillery. By the time it gets into the desert, it will be a ton of rain.

Some place no one mentioned

I’ve lived in AZ most of my life and can’t believe this “unknown “ place wasn’t mentioned. It happens to be the Grand Canyon. Anyone heard of that place? The south rim is 3 hrs north of Sedona. The north rim is about 4 hours north. They are must see locations at least once in your life. Flagstaff is also a fabulous place. There’s a dormant cinder rock volcano just outside town and a lava flow park. I haven’t seen anything like this except in Hawaii. If you have time to explore further there’s numerous locations in page, Az and them around Moab such as Arches and Canyon Lands. You might have to come back again. Have a safe and wonderful trip!!

If you're still traveling out west, check out Carlsbad Caverns and a BLM camping area named Chosa not too far from the cavern.

Some places don't need mentioning. Those are the national parks and packed venues that spark the journey. What most people miss are the unmentioned holes in the wall along the way. Jerome and Winslow, AZ...Dead Horse State Park...Cadillac Ranch...Hatch, NM...we had more fun at these places than anywhere. Many of them were mentioned in my post earlier. Soooo many folks contributed and most of them that were in our path....we visited. Above all....Tombstone, Arizona. It was our #1 destination and did not disappoint. We stayed 3 nights and should have stayed more. Another surprise town...Oklahoma City. The Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum was the most awesome thing we did. It takes 3 days to see everything.

We drove from Alvin to Sedona a couple of months ago, but our route took us through Lubbock to Clovis, NM, avoiding a lot of construction along I-40. The route put us on I-40 just before flagstaff. I wish I could remember the highways we took, but it was a comfortable, traffic drama-free drive that was parallel to I-40. I even stood on a random corner in Winslow, AZ! Sadly, there was no girl in a flatbed ford looking at me. LoL

There was when I got there...I took her. Our entire journey of 6,000 miles included only 234 miles on interstates...except when we got the call that daughter need emergency open heart surgery in Asheville. We were in Dodge City so booked 450 miles a day for 3 days of interstates back to the beach...regrouped and headed to Asheville. The most amazing places we saw and visited were in the small one or none traffic light towns we passed through. Already planning our trip for next year...OKC is first big stop, then N and NW from there up through Montana, ND, SD then head east to Michigan UP, Canadian side of Niagara Falls and work our way back from there. Back roads are where all the good stuff is!!

If in page, Az, please see and tour Navajo Upper Antelope Canyon

Take lots of water, hiking shoes due to walking on sand.
10 minutes east of page

A MUST

We just came through okc headed west.
Spending the night in Clinton.
Antiquing has been slim pickings.
Home tomorrow.
6,000ish miles in the Pacifica.
RV is at home, big antique items won't fit through the door so no RV this trip.

Grand Canyon is a one-and-done.
The little grand Canyon between Cameron and the big canyon is a SPECTACULAR gorge.

Look up
Two guns Arizona on YouTube

Springerville
Eagar
White mountains if you have the time

(Someone told me antelope Canyon was over $100 each person. Can anyone verify?)

Point of no-interest;
Not a flat bed ford, it was a flatbed datsun.
Not Winslow, it was Flagstaff.
Not a corner, but the der weinerschnitzel parking lot.

Sorry.
Bubble is now properly burst.

Weinerschnitzel building is still there on 66 in Flagstaff.
They serve the best steak sandwich ever.
Really great burgers also.

You have to go there so you too can burst bubbles.

On our recent western excursion I ended up with a cracked windshield and a leaking Jack from traveling I40 westward from Memphis. My bet is the Ducks driveway is smoother than that road. That road is the worst we were on. I’d avoid it like the plaque.
