I sort of did this when I replaced the two G27 batteries that were delivered with the unit with two G31 AGMs. I kept the G27s and set them up with jumper cables and two longer cables for + and - with alligator clips on the ends. If I am ever camping longer than 4 days in one place and I don't want to run the generator, I can put these two batteries at the forward end of the long outside storage locker and run the cables underneath to the existing G31s under the step.

They won't have any fuse protection and for a temporary hookup I can live with that. Theoretically to be kosher you will need a fuse on each end of the + cable because either battery system could burn down your rig if you had a fault in the + cable.

But I believe there is some leeway for short runs and you may not have to do anything, but to be make it safer I would enclose the red cable in spiral cable wrap.

Also it is best to put the two batteries in a battery box and screw it down to the compartment floor.

I mocked it up, did the build, bought the wiring, then changed my mind.
Extra batteries fit very well in the rear of each front fender well.
A literal ton of room there. Two will easily stack on each side, giving you four extra batteries.
Low gravity, no storage space consumed, easy to access, easy to jump/be jumped....

I think it's post 90 and 196 in my signature thread.
I have TWELVE 6v batteries here at the shop, just awaiting something to put themselves in to.
8 of them were going in the 24.1
Now they aren't.
It's too easy to just run the generator or engine and the inverter.

We’re just completing a 5 night trip along the CA coast.
All BoonDocking (until tonight).
I have 300 watts solar.
But with cloudy & limited sunshine, short October days, I’ve really struggled to keep my 2 FLA deep cycle batteries above 12.2 (which is 50% discharge).

The generator is really loud, I tire of the noise.
But when the sun don’t shine there’s no other option.

I don’t want to add more FLA batteries
And if I move to Lithium, I gotta change out the Converter/Charger & the BIM

All I really need is a super quiet Honda 1000. But then there’s the extra hassle of lugging around another 40#’s plus the extra gas can with fuel that’s needed.

If you want more power, why don’t you get a Battleborn lithium battery?

Well if you want extra battery power you need the space and weight available, which can be at a premium. Or you spend $$$ and upgrade to a better system. Expanding and making things better is not cheap. The other option is just stay at campgrounds every night like I do. Pick your poison.
