Sunshade doesn't retract with engine on?

Hello,

We just purchased a 2023 Sunsport 34R and the sun shade does not retract with the engine turned on. It will lower (down to the lower limit set point), but will not raise until I turn off the engine. Is this normal operation? I can't find any information on the sun shade in the owner's manual. Thank you!

Not normal. It should be able to retract engine running or not.

It is possible that your sun shades need to be re-adjusted for max/min travel limit points when power is on and off in your coach, as a starting point. It is best to try to identify the manufacturer of your shades and obtain their full set point adjustment instructions. I am attaching a link to dated (old) information that “might” help......but it is always best to get the current manufacturer adjustment info for your shades. If re-setting limit points does not fix your situation, you may have an intermittent connection somewhere in the wiring.

The RV "Owners Manual" is next to worthless. Find the Awning Owners Manual for accurate information.

Thor can't seem to stay on the same page with their interlocks. On my MH I can not extend nor retract the awning if the engine is on (makes the most sense).

Other MHs have to have the engine running to extend and retract it (same issue with slides).

Bottom line: if the interlock allows operation with a certain set of conditions, that should be for both extend and retract operation. Otherwise, Thor has wired the awning interlock incorrectly.

I contacted Thor and they recommended that I reprogram the limits of the sunshade, which worked. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

PO is talking about the shade on the windshield not the awning.
