Fuel Additive Class C

Hey everyone

What does everyone use as a fuel additive for fuel stabilization and cleaning. I just had my Onan 4000 generator have the spark plug, fuel pump and carburetor replaced. I want to have my fuel system primed so when I use the generator it also will clean it's fuel system.

I live in Florida and have my RV parked at home and I am going to start a program to run the generator every month.

I appreciate any ideas you all have.

Thanks

Well there's your problem. Onan has that requirement in their manual.

You could also throw some blue STA-BIL in the tank if you like:

Typically if my motorhome sits without use for 30 days, I use a fuel stabilizer (Sta-bil Marine 360). My rule is fuel is "stale" if I don't use the majority of fuel in the tank in 30 days or so.

Living in Ohio, our "travel season" is somewhat dictated by temperature. We winterize in early to mid November, which includes adding stabilizer to the fuel tank. We de-winterize in early to mid April... and never add stabilizer during the "use season" when temps are conducive to travel.

I exercise both coach and generator for at least one hour once a month... during travel season AND while in winter storage.

I don't put much stock in additives touted as injector cleaners, etc. ...just use quality gasoline. IMO, those products are designed to lighten your wallet more than anything else...

When I had a class c I used to take it shopping or to work on a regular basis during the winter. This kept all power train and generator exercised. With my class a, I use it more, now retired, but when we have no scheduled trips, I drive it up and down the driveway and watch football games using the generator. No fuel additives needed.

Since I've owned it, I always have used Sta-Bil in the last tank of the trip. I don't use it during a trip when I know I'll be using multiple tanks but I try to fill up when close to home so that the tank is full or nearly so in storage and I treat that tank. Also try to run the genny for a few minutes after that fill up just to get treated fuel into it.
It has worked for me but I honestly can't say it's any better than if I had done nothing. I don't routinely run the genny every month either. Probably on average about every two months if in long term storage. I used to run it more but got lazy

We use the Sta-Bil Stabilizer. Although we have our 28A on site, we are not taking it out very frequently (maybe that will change now that I'm retired!). We do exercise the genny and drive it 10 or so miles once a month.

When we had the 6.8 V-10 under the hood: we used Sta-Bil marine.
But we went full-on diesel in order to cut out those expensive additives...

Well, except for the DEF additive.

As summer dies down, start filling (or adding to) tank with non-ethanol gasoline. This, along with STA-BIL, will assure zero issues.

I use stabil and I don't.
Except for some bad exhaust smell from old gas, I've fired up 10 year old gas successfully.
Stabil works but dont feel bad if you skip a dose.

My rig's generator runs off the main fuel tank. At the end of the use season and when winterizing I use a fuel stabilizer. I do this while filling the tank to avoid condensation. Then I run both the MH and Genny to incorporate the Stay-Bil in both units.

Personally, I do not use stabilizers in my F-53. And, I do not run my genset every month. I have never had a problem. But the owners guide says:

Engine
• The engine oil and filter should be
changed prior to storage because used
engine oil contains contaminates that
may cause engine damage.
• Start the engine every 15 days for a
minimum of 15 minutes. Run at fast idle
with the climate controls set to defrost
until the engine reaches normal
operating temperature.
• With your foot on the brake, shift
through all the gears while the engine
is running.
• We recommend that you change the
engine oil before you use your vehicle
again.

Fuel system
• Fill the fuel tank with high-quality fuel
until the first automatic shutoff of the
fuel pump nozzle.

I treat all of my gas engines with Seafoam regardless how big or small they are. Not only treats the fuel, but the entire fuel system from ethanol related issues including rubber line degradation. Cheap insurance all year round.

Fuel additive

I use Seafoam. It works real well on carburetor parts particularly the generator.

I dont want to look it up because I have only a bit of curiosity.

Is there a hack, I don't care legal or not, just the mechanics interest me, that negates DEF?

I can overcome a catalytic converter with just a small part.(I don't need to because I have a cat, but I could).
Is there a way around the DEF insanity?

Yes, DELETE and others

Also a software patch for ECM

Quite a few rigs running right now with a temp fix due to a huge batch of bad Def heads

You get a lot of scrutiny going this direction

Ethanol-gasoline blends have a short shelf life of 2-3 months without any additional additives.

Non-Ethanol gasoline blends (Marine gas) have a longer shelf life of 6-12 months without any additional additives. As a bonus, they can give slightly better MPG, both of these benefits come at a cost though.
