power step problem

Hello everyone. Well the steps on our 2016 34j are having issues. they move, but they stop and start, then stop and start. when they get to their final spot, in or out, the light under the step flashes and there is a click. Like it is still trying to do something. Weird. Coach is plugged in to 50 amp. morrow moves steps but very intermitently. Could replace motor but seems like motor is moving them. Seems like the controller is having trouble telling the motor what to do. Oh and they move in and out smoothly without issue manually. (when disconnected from the arm) Any ideas would be great before I replace the controller and motor.

Thanks Shannon

Have disconnected all the electrical parts to try a 'reset'?

Not sure about the steps on your coach but mine say to clean and lubricate with white spray grease every 30 days.

You might want to disconnect the arm that connects the steps to the motor and make sure the steps move smoothly in and out when then are disconnected from the motor. Make sure nothing is bent or binding.

If the steps move smoothly manually, then I would open and close the door to make the motor move to see if it moves smoothly in both directions without the steps connected.

I would also check the grounding wire. It would be worth taking it apart, cleaning the terminal and the mounting point and then using new star or lock washers and tighten it down. A poor ground can cause the steps to work erratically as well.

Mine was haunted. Needed to change the controller.

There are also relays telling the controller what to do. Trans park switch on. Emergency brakes switch on. Ignition switch off position.
